The purpose of the guideline is to provide evidence-based recommendations on nonsurgical interventions for chronic primary LBP (CPLBP) in adults, including older people, that can be delivered in primary and community care settings to improve CPLBP-related health and well-being outcomes. For this reason, the guideline does not consider interventions typically delivered in secondary or tertiary care settings (e.g. surgical or other invasive procedures) or workplace interventions.
Dr Roddy Chiropractor explains in brief, chiropractic concepts, neck and back pain from his Sports Injury clinic in Croydon, London in the video below this section. Pain in the back can be the result of an injury, accident, overuse, disease, or other activities. Whatever the cause, when your back is hurting, it affects every area of your life. Most cases deal with lower back discomfort, which is acute, severe, and localised muscle and joint stiffness in the lower back and associated muscles.
After undergoing a thorough assessment at our practice, our professionals create a plan to address the problem, using various modalities, in addition to adjustments, to provide pain relief and restore function. We work together to manage the patient’s pain.

In a recent groundbreaking development, the World Health Organization (WHO) has published a new guideline aimed at the non-surgical treatment of chronic primary low back pain in adults. This comprehensive guideline reviews 37 interventions, including spinal manipulative therapy (SMT), which received a Conditional recommendation in favour of use, very low certainty evidence.
While this may appear modest at first glance, within the full context of the guideline, it marks a notable recognition of SMT’s potential role in managing this pervasive condition.
“When it comes to treating most back pain, best practice starts by avoiding prescribed and over-the counter medications and instead, accessing person-centred, low risk, non-surgical, drug-free therapies that can treat the underlying cause not just the symptoms while providing self-care preventative measures essential in delivering holistic patient care,” Dr Cahill said. “Every week 400,000 chiropractic healthcare consultations are helping to create well-adjusted Australians. With so many seeking holistic chiropractic healthcare every week, ACA chiropractors continue to play an important role in improving the spinal health of everyday Australians,” said Dr Cahill.
With the cost of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) to the Australian economy exceeding $55.1 billion annually (including direct health costs, lost productivity and reduced quality of life); with 6.1 million Australians already affected, of which 58% are of working age in peak income earning years (25-64); and, with the growth in musculoskeletal cases projected to be 43% over the next two decades (including older Australians living with spinal health conditions), the health burden on Australians and our economy is significant. By promoting a pro-active approach to improving spinal health through effective drug-free solutions, national Spinal Health Week 2024 will increase awareness of MSDs that can cause back pain and restrict the quality of life and increase the psychological distress and bodily pain of sufferers.
